We trained these individuals and turned them into a team of athletes. They have participated in various wheelchair sports meets organized by the Handicapped Welfare Federation in New Delhi. It is heartening to note that a team of 24 players was prepared by us, and they participated in the National Paralympic Sports Meet organized by the National Paralympic Committee, Bengaluru in 1994 at Kanteerva Stadium, Bengaluru and won medals. In 2002, for the first time in India, we organized a friendly cricket match for the physically challenged between India & England, which was played at K.D. Singh Babu' Stadium, Lucknow. In the year 2005, Mobility India Foundation organized an Indo-Russian Physically Challenged Sports Meet in which a large number of athletes from both the countries participated in various field and track events including table tennis standing and wheelchair categories.
Subsequently, Mobility India Foundation, as a sports partner of the Indian Cricket Federation for Disabled, jointly organized various inter-state, state, and national level cricket tournaments/championships in which more than 30 teams from different states and union territories of India participated. The national cricket team selected from these tournaments visited Bangladesh and played a cricket match in Dhaka in April 2018. The winning cricket team was felicitated by the Governor of Uttar Pradesh at Raj Bhawan, Lucknow.
We also organized several social programmes such as environmental awareness programmes where our differently abled players participated in tree plantation activities at many places in the city including the Lucknow Zoo. Apart from these activities, a team of our differently abled volunteers also participated in the Gomti Safai Abhiyan. Lucknow, Clean Lucknow & Green Lucknow programme was also conducted by Mobility India Foundation, and we continue to do such other social activities from time to time.
As of now we are an affiliate member body of *Uttar Pradesh Cerebral palsy sports & welfare trust (UPCPSWT) which focuses on promoting Para sports and games for Cerebral Palsy i.e. Football, Athletics - Track & Field, Race Running, (Frame Running) Swimming, Taekwondo, Table Tennis and more. Therefore, we encourage athletes to choose sports as a means of livelihood so that they can become financially independent. Our vision is to create a conducive and barrier-free environment, providing opportunities and a platform for people with cerebral palsy to showcase their sporting abilities. We encourage them to participate in adaptive sports that help improve their physical, mental, psychological, social, and economic wellbeing. We believe in the transformative power of sport, not only for physical health, but also for building self-confidence, a sense of independence and fostering teamwork. *(UPCPSWT) which is affiliated to the national body - Cerebral Palsy Sports Federation of India (CPSFI) recognized by the Govt. of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and the international body known as World Ability sports. As we are aware, Cerebral Palsy is the leading cause of chronic disability in children, making them physically and mentally handicapped and socially aloof. It is our firm belief that sports can change their lives and hence we organize coaching, training camps, tournaments/championships etc. for them at District, Inter-State, State & National levels from time to time.
